HELLO!
I'm Amanda Johns, Motherbaby Wellness Consultant. Mother to 3 boys and a golden retriever. Currently loving life with my sweet husband in Littleton, Colorado. If you're local, please drop me a message! Here's a little more of the backstory to my business and my mission...
When I first became a mama in 2011, I began to see how challenging it could be traversing this new journey, especially when my intuition led me to swim against mainstream norms. I navigated this chapter with some strength only because of the supportive community I found and now reflect on how vital these points of contact become for the rest of my trajectory of parenting to this day. My village has changed somewhat over the years, but that layer of support remains foundational for my wellbeing and ability to mother my children well.
Immediately following the transition to becoming a mama of two children, brought a health challenge I’m still navigating to this day. Being the holistic health geek I’ve always been, this led me down many paths of learning about the body. I know the vitality I feel today is a result of the many layers of caring for myself I’ve built in over the years.
My third journey into motherhood was the point that I realized how much women need deeply connected, warm, loving, care practices built into the birth and postpartum healing journey. This tender time holds so much potential to piece ourselves back together and step into our strength as women.
I created Root & Bloom Postpartum in 2018, upon realizing how completely neglected this type of postpartum care is in our culture. Preparing for birth is standard protocol, but preparing for the immense changes that follow, isn’t even typically considered. Seeing and feeling the void, I trained in breastfeeding, holistic physical and mental postpartum care, birth story processing, nutrition and healing foods, herbalism, massage, and birth. Understanding more about our miraculous human body, our ability to bring life into this world, and how perfectly designed these processes are, the path became intimately spiritual. Gaining deeper understanding in all aspects of this, means I’m always learning alongside my homeschooled boys.
The days are full, but my work feels crucial to offer to those who are seeking this kind of support. My mission is to help families prepare for and move through birth and postpartum with more peace and solid resourcing.
I believe…
Birth is sacred. Bringing life into this world bridges heaven and earth. Understanding the divine perfection of how this unfolds in physiologic birth opens windows of understanding to many other aspects of living well.
Vitality is innate. The intelligent design of our body knows exactly how to give life, adapt, heal, and thrive when our inputs are aligned with the way nature intended. Physical, mental, emotional, energetic, and spiritual layers can be tended in order to shift things.
Mothers need to be held. Tending to the mothers, especially in a time of bringing in new life, is the foundation of cultural wellness. Thriving mothers means thriving families; thriving families means a thriving society. This is the core of INNATE Traditions' teachings.
The Motherbaby dyad is one unit after birth, just as it is in pregnancy. One cannot fully be held well, without supporting the other. Our physiologic design as humans requires constant care for babies, unlike some other mammals, that are fairly capable of surviving on their own immediately after birth. When this biology is out of sync, there can be physical or emotional downstream effects. Understanding our physiological design throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum can equip families to truly thrive.
Proper nourishment is foundational to thrive. We’re often told what NOT to eat, but especially when growing new humans, proper nourishment of nutrients we DO NEED is usually overlooked or misunderstood. Nourishment also includes many inputs beyond the actual food we eat.
Past and future generations matter. Understanding where we came from is helpful to inform how we move forward, and how we move forward will affect our children, their children, and so on.
Babies are actually so simple. We’re often led to overcomplicate all matters birth, babies, and parenting, and yes, sometimes it definitely feels complicated. This is where understanding physiological design and having adequate support puts so much in perspective. Especially when it comes to young children, learning to live in alignment with nature, can be a game changer.
I believe if we are firmly rooted- supported, nourished, given space to change and grow into motherhood- we bloom with joy and peace and can respond dynamically to changing seasons.
